 Tragic Loss in Pahalgam: The April 22, 2025 Attack


On April 22, 2025, a brutal terrorist attack unfolded in the peaceful town of Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, leaving the entire nation in shock and sorrow. Known for its natural beauty and calm atmosphere, Pahalgam turned into a site of horror as terrorists targeted innocent civilians, mainly tourists, in the Baisaran Valley.


The Incident

The attack occurred around 4:30 PM IST, when seven armed militants opened indiscriminate fire on tourists enjoying the scenic meadows of Baisaran. The terrorists, armed with M4 carbines and AK-47 rifles, killed 28 people and injured over 20 others. Victims included 25 Indian tourists, two local residents, and one tourist from Nepal. Eyewitnesses reported scenes of panic and chaos as people ran for their lives, while some brave locals and pony operators helped evacuate the injured.


The Attackers

The responsibility for the attack was claimed by The Resistance Front (TRF), a group linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba, a Pakistan-based terrorist organization. They claimed the attack was in response to what they described as demographic changes in Kashmir. Security agencies revealed that the attackers had used body cameras to record the massacre and then shared the footage online as propaganda.


National Response

The entire country reacted with grief and outrage. Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the attack and returned early from an international trip. Leaders from across political parties expressed condolences and promised strict action. India downgraded diplomatic relations with Pakistan, suspended participation in the Indus Waters Treaty, and tightened security at the borders.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) and intelligence agencies launched an investigation, identifying Saifullah Kasuri, a top Lashkar-e-Taiba commander, as the mastermind behind the massacre.


A Nation in Mourning


The April 22 Pahalgam attack is one of the worst tragedies in recent years. It has brought to light the persistent threat of terrorism in the region and the need for stronger preventive measures. As India mourns the loss of innocent lives, the courage of local residents who helped during the attack stands as a symbol of hope and unity.
